Sexual Health Victoria (SHV) has been a leader in reproductive and sexual health for over 40 years. We are dedicated to supporting people to make decisions about their reproductive and sexual health and wellbeing that are right for them.
SHV is committed to providing a safe environment for all.
If you have current signs or symptoms of COVID infection or have been diagnosed with COVID in the last 7 days, please do not come into our clinics.
Upon entry to our clinics, please note that a fresh surgical mask is required. Free masks are available in the foyer area at each of our clinics.
Support people are welcome to attend our clinic. However, they may not be permitted into the consultation rooms.

After hours and emergency care out of hours
- For all after hours support and information regarding medical terminations of pregnancy (MTOP) please call the 24 hour helpline on 1300 003 707 (select option 3).
- After hours care is also available from DoctorDoctor on 13 26 60. DoctorDoctor is a GP only after care service.
Home Visits
Home visits are available for clients whose limitations prevent them from attending the clinic. Please speak with reception or contact the clinic if you would like further information.
Contraception
We provide information, support and advice on your contraceptive choices.
Specialising in long acting reversible contraception, we offer:
- insertion and removal of the intrauterine devices (IUDs) – both hormonal (Mirena™, Kyleena™) and non-hormonal copper
- prescriptions for, insertion and removal of contraceptive implants (Implanon NXT™)
- the contraceptive injection (Depo-Provera™)
Additional contraceptive services include:
- emergency contraception (no prescription required)
- prescriptions for daily contraceptive pills
- contraceptive barriers including the external condom, internal condom and diaphragms.
- advice and referral for other contraceptive methods including the NuvaRing (vaginal ring), tubal ligation (sterilisation), vasectomy and natural family planning.
- postnatal contraception.
Medication Abortion
We provide medication abortion (the 'abortion pill').
Pregnancy
We provide information, support and advice on:
- pre-pregnancy
- pregnancy testing
- unplanned pregnancy choices
- fertility/infertility advice and referral
- abortion options and referral.
Reproductive and sexual health
We provide information, support and advice on:
- menstrual conditions
- cervical health, including cervical screening
- telehealth cervical screening to arrange self collected cervical screening tests
- breast health checks
- sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses (BBVs) including STI & BBV testing
- PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)
- human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing (note we do not provide treatment for HIV)
- testing for hepatitis A, hepatitis B & hepatitis C
- screening for sex workers
- referral in to SHV specialists (please call our Box Hill clinic on 03 9257 0100)
- referral out to external specialists
- Mpox vaccine
Young people under 21
Both our clinics provide services for people under 21 where:
- low or no cost services are provided
- consultations are confidential and youth friendly

We are a training clinic
Our clinics provide advanced training for doctors and nurses.
At your appointment you may be seen by a qualified health professional completing advanced training with us.
An SHV staff doctor or nurse will always be present to provide supervision.

What do I need to bring?
- Please bring your Medicare, Healthcare, student or other concession cards (if you have any of these).
- Please complete your clinic registration form before you arrive SHV Box Hill patient registration form or SHV Melbourne registration form (if possible). This will fast track your registration upon arrival at the clinic.

Communication Policy
Telephone: Our receptionists can answer general questions over the phone, but for clinical information, you’ll be transferred to a nurse to assist. If your call is urgent or you have symptoms, please let us know so we can prioritise your call. We aim to return non-urgent calls within one business day.
Email: Please be aware that our emails are not encrypted, and the security of any email content cannot be guaranteed. Non-encrypted emails (and any attachments) transmit as plain text and can be intercepted via hacking of an organisation’s or your email account. As such we strongly discourage other medical practices and clients from emailing medical or personal information to us. We may agree to correspond via email in response to a query or medical record request provided that we receive an acknowledgement that you have considered and accepted the risks associated with email communications. We will also need to verify your identity before we send any information. We aim to respond to emails within 48 business hours. If your matter is urgent, please contact the clinic directly.
