After more than 50 years of providing specialised health care, education and advocacy to the community, Family Planning Victoria has changed its name to Sexual Health Victoria to better reflect society's changing attitudes towards relationships, sexuality and sex.
Our new name – effective from 1 February 2022 – signifies the evolving nature of the organisation's remit and its inclusive and progressive approach in the sexual health space.
Over 1000 people were consulted during the rebranding process. The insights revealed that 'family planning' is closely associated with pregnancy and pregnancy-related services, which is not the organisation's key focus. Our services are for the sexual health of everybody, not just those starting a family. Therefore the decision has been made to move with the times and retire the Family Planning Victoria name.
We are a judgment-free and inclusive organisation run by some of the country's best sexual health educators and medical staff. We are a health promotion provider which offers essential sexual health education and care services, community outreach, in and out of school education, and professional medical training. Being visible and relevant is paramount, and to do this, we realised we needed to retire the name Family Planning Victoria.
Our purpose is to empower the sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing of all.
